Merrill, James E. (25 OCT 1854 - 29 May 1924)

James E. Merrill was born near Williamsport, Pa., Oct. 25, 1854. He came to Wisconsin at the age of 19 years. He died at Greenwood, Clark County, Wis., May 29, 1924, aged 69 years, 7 months and 4 days.

He was united in marriage to Martha J. Green, March 31, 1878. To this union 9 children were born, 5 boys and 4 girls, of which 5 have passed on before him, Guy, July 12, 1892; Leroy, July 28, 1892, Daisy, Oct, 7, 1892, Alfreda, Dec. 14, 1909, and Percy, who died in service in Germany, leaving Harry of Alma Center, Mrs. W. E. Leonard of Tulsa, Okla., Samuel of Dickson, S.D., Jeanette of Pardeville, Wis. On Sept. 5, 1900 occurred the death of Martha J. Merrill, wife and mother, at Loyal. On Dec. 15, 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Miller and to this union 7 children were born. One died in infancy Jan. 11, 1917, followed Jan. 17, 1917 by the mother, leaving Violet of Milwaukee, Mrs. Leroy Stabnow of Land O'Lakes, Fern of Kohler, Wis., Ruby of Pardeeville, Wis., where she attended high school, Lawrence and Leland at home. Also an aged mother, Mrs. A. C. Merrill of Alma Center, Wis. and 2 sisters, Mrs. H. Green of Elmira, N.Y. and Mrs. Eliza Easton, Alma Center, Wis.

The sad news called them from their homes far and near to be with us as we pay our last tribute tot he dead.

The funeral was held at Loyal on Tuesday, June 3rd, W. J. James officiating and he was laid to rest in the family lot in the Loyal Cemetery.
