Potts, George A. (8 March 1850 - 7 Feb. 1930)

George A. Potts was born in Indiana, March 8th, 1850. When he was five years old his parents, with their family moved to Iowa.

Two years later the father died, leaving the mother with the four small children, William, George, Rhoda and John. They encountered many privation in those early days, but the mother kept her family at home and they all grew up together.

On November 23rd , 1876, he was united in marriage with Catherine Agnes Rudolph, who preceded him in death on November 25th, 1920.

To this union three sons were born, George of Gilman, Wis., Burdette and Floyd of Greenwood, Wis., who survive their parents, and one daughter, Lucy Fern, who died when 2 ½ years old. His mother died in 1899 and his brothers and sister passed away at comparatively early ages.

In March 1920 they moved to Greenwood, Wis., and the following Thanksgiving, Mrs. Potts passed away. Since her death he made his home with Floyd, whose home adjoins the old home place.

About two weeks previous to his death, he contracted a severe cold, which seemed to affect his heart. He had not sufficient strength to combat the trouble and peacefully passed away at one o’clock in the morning on Feb. 7th. Funeral services were held at Floyd’s home in Greenwood Sunday afternoon at two o’clock and George, Burdette and Floyd accompanied the body to Tama, Iowa for burial.
