Esther Mary Todd was born on August 13, 1957, in Marshfield, the daughter of Edward A. and Linda M. (Nielsen) Todd. She was raised in Granton, until her father's passing in 1964. Esther was then raised in Marshfield by her uncle, LeRoy Todd. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1975, and then attended UW-Eau Claire where she graduated in 1979, with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Durand. Esther was united in marriage to Charles W. Hopfensperger on August 1, 1981, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. In 1984, she taught in the Neillsville Public Schools until becoming employed with Loyal Public Schools in 1987. Esther taught in Loyal for many years until retiring.

After her retirement, she kept busy watching her grandson, tutoring for Tractors for Autism, and substitute teaching at St. Anthony's Catholic School in Loyal. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, fishing, and dogs. Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal, a member of the Wisconsin Education Association, and was on the Board of Directors for Tractors for Autism.

She is survived by her two children: Eric Hopfensperger of Spooner, and Amber Hopfensperger of Spencer; one grandson: Kayden Patterson; one sister: Lisa (Mark) Wilocowski of Mosinee; one brother: Paul (Denise) Todd of Withee; two half-brothers: Roy (Lori) Sersch, Jr. of Stratford, and Ray (Gloria) Sersch of Edgar; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, on October 19, 2010; two brothers: Allen, in infancy, and Mark Todd; and her foster parents: LeRoy Todd and Helen Spiegelberg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate, and burial will follow in West Spencer Cemetery in Spencer. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.
