Barrett, Lawrence A. (1900 - 31 OCT 1928)

Lawrence A. Barrett, age 28 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Barrett, former residents of Thorp, Clark County, Wis., died at a hospital at Milwaukee on Wednesday of last week. He was taken ill on Tuesday at his home and removed to the hospital, where he passed away the following day, paralysis of the kidneys being the cause. Deceased was born here and after graduating from the high school went to Milwaukee to take up mechanical engineering at Marquette University.

The following paragraph is taken from last Friday's issue of the Milwaukee Journal:

"Lawrence A. Barrett, 28, mechanical engineer for the Oilgear co., 659 Park St., died Wednesday at his home, 371 East Milwaukee Av., Wauwatosa.

Mr. Barrett was a native of Thorp, Wis., and studied engineering at Marquette University. Since joining the Oilgear Co. staff he achieved a number of patent devices relating to the application of oil gear transmission to machine tools. These included a device for straightening malleable castings, which formerly had to be done by drop hammer, resulting in more than 50 percent breakage.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Barrett, and two small children, Marion and Betty. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Weiss undertaking establishment, 315 Farwell Av., with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery."
