OLD SETTLER PASSES ON

Peter LaFlex, an old settler of this commUnity, Wisconsin, died of organic heart disease at the Clark County Hospital, Owen, on Sunday, Feb. 15, 1942. He had reached the ripe old age of 87 years old.

The body was brought to the Bogumill Funeral Home here and lay in state until the time of the funeral which was held there on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Jus. Irish officiating.

Peter LaFlex was born in Canada on March 23, 1855. He came to Clark County while a youth and worked in the logging camps near Colby and on the river drives of the South and North Forks of the Eau Claire and Black River.

In the year 1877, he was united in marriage to Colista Dolf* at Colby. Mrs. LaFlex passed away on Feb. 4, 1941. He came to Thorp in 1877, as one of the first settlers in his territory together with Hank Golf, Dave Carpenter and others. He homesteaded forty acres in the Town of Reseburg and packed supplies on his back from Chippewa Falls, the nearest point.

Twelve children were in the LaFlex family, eight of whom survived the father, viz: one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Josie) Poppe, of Withee; seven sons, Alex of Thiensville, Wis., Louis of Ladysmith, Leander, of Waupaca, Frank of Greenwood, Harry of Solon Springs, Eanie of Minneapolis and Jesse of Thorp. He is also survived by 53 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren.

The remains were interred in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Herman Buss, Wm. Hickman, Wm. Roesler, Wm. Biddle, John Barth and Elmer Meyer.

******CARD OF THANKS

We wish to extend out sincere thanks to relatives, old neighbors and friends for their kind expressions of sympathy during our recent bereavement, the death of our beloved father, Peter LaFlex; we especially wish to thank Rev. Irish for his words of consolation, the pall bearers, those who gave the flowers and the Bogumill Morticians.
