Kass, Mathias (18 DEC 1858 - 28 Jan 1927)

Mr. Mathias Kass died at his home in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on Friday morning, Jan. 28, 1927, of cancer, after a lingering illness extending over a period of several months. Deceased was born in Luxembourg, Germany, on Dec. 18, 1858, and came to America at the age of 21 years. After working for an uncle at Dubuque, Iowa for several years, he went to Winona, Minn., where he was united in marriage to Emma Spehn and in Dec. 1890, moved to a farm near Eidsvold, Clark County, Wis. After many years spent on the farm he moved to this village in 1913. He served the town of Thorp as clerk for eleven years. Deceased had borne adversity bravely and enjoyed prosperity quietly. He had filled the various relations of life, as husband, father and friend, and filled them well. Who can do more? Besides a devoted wife he leaves one son, Alfred, and seven daughters, Mrs. A. J. Kleckner of Neillsville; Mrs. Joseph Juneman of Stratford; Miss Mable of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Ed Juneman of Stratford; Miss Florence of Duluth; Mrs. W. E. Boelter of Thorp and Miss Caroline of Wauwatosa, all of who were present at the funeral, which took place on Monday morning from St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Father A.M. Muckerheide officiating, interment following in the Catholic Cemetery.
