Spencer D. Graves, 73, Spencer, died on Sunday, June 2, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, at Spencer United Methodist church. The Rev. Lois Takata officiated. Burial was in the Spencer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerome Heckel, Harry heckle, tom Loughead, Jim Sautner, Ken Graupner, Steve Heckel, Elliot Graves, Nick Graves and William Graves. Honorary pallbearers were Jacob Weaver, Timothy Kraus, Erica Graves, Brittany Graves, Lauren Graves and Michelle Weaver.

Spencer D. Graves was born on Jan. 31, 1929, in Ladysmith, to Kenneth and Bernice [nee Soles] Graves. He moved with his family to Spencer in 1943. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1947 and later attended Ripon College. He married P. Jean Heckel on Dec. 28, 1954, at Our Lady of Peace Rectory, Marshfield. He was employed at Land O’Lakes as traffic coordinator for 30 years until he retired in 1990. He held several offices and was a lay speaker at the United Methodist Church. He was active in the Boy Scouts as assistant Webelos leader and treasurer from 1970-76. He served on the village of Spencer Planning Commission from 1972-76. For the past 27 years. He was an active member of the Marshfield Masonic Lodge No. 224 F&AM, Zor Shrine, Scottish Rite and Eastern Star Everett Lodge No. 95 OES.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; six children, April Weaver, Spencer, Spencer [Mary] Graves, Spencer, Jackie Becker, Marshfield, Greg [Val] Graves, Crystal, Minn. Jeff [Julie] Graves, Hewitt and Sarah [Patrick] Kraus, Pittsville; eight grandchildren, Michelle Weaver, Eliot, Erica, Brittany, Nick, William and Lauren Graves, and Timothy Kraus; one great-grandson, Jacob Weaver; three sisters, Janet [Tom] Loughead, Two Rivers, Sue [Jim] Suatner, Spencer, and Pat [Ken] Graupner, Beaver Dam; two brothers, Frederic [Jane] Graves, Ham Lake, Minn., and Mike Graves, Marshfield.

His parents preceded him in death.

Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
