Morse, Julia (23 NOV 1857 - 13 Sep 1929)

Mrs. Sidney E. Morse passed away at her home in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., Friday morning, at 8:20 o'clock, Sept. 13, 1929, aged 71 years, 9 months and 20 days. She had not been in strong health for some time and the first week in September she was taken to Rice Lake Hospital; but not gaining in health she was brought home Saturday preceding her death. She was not able to be about the house again after that time.

Mrs. Morse's maiden name was Julia Jones, and she was born in New York State Nov. 23, 1857. Her parents died when she was an infant, and she was taken into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Gates, with whom she came to Clark County.

On Feb. 29, 1874 she was married to Sidney Morse. After their marriage they settled on the home farm of Mr. Morse's father, George W. Morse, at Christie, Clark County, building a log house and a barn on the back forty of the father's farm. After the death of the father, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Morse bought out the farm and spent the best years of their life in improving it, developing the place into a beautiful farm home, Later they bought a home in Neillsville, where they lived for some time. Mr. Morse died Sept. 1, 1925. Mrs. Morse returned to Christie, where she lived until Jan. 1927, when she again came back to the Neillsville home, where she died.

Mrs. Morse had gone through all the hardships of pioneer life and had many of the fine qualities which these early days developed. She was a kind and helpful neighbor, ever ready to be of service in the community and a loving wife and mother. During many years of her life she was a member of the M. E. Ladies Aid at Christie and was very helpful in the work.

She is survived by two sons and four daughters: Alonzo Morse at Christie; Orson Morse, Dayton, Oregon; May, Mrs. Bert Sischo, Salem, Oregon; Olive, Mrs. Walter Kelch, Waterloo, N.Y.; Mrs. Grace West, Neillsville. One daughter, Maud, is deceased. She leaves also 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at Lowe's Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. S. J. Lambright officiating.
