Stevens, Lon (19 Dec. 1849 - 4 May 1926)

On May 4, death claimed Lon Stevens, another Clark County’s pioneers. He passed away after a prolonged illness and complication of diseases.

Mr. Stevens was born in Moscow, Maine, Dec. 19, 1849 and came to Plymouth, Sheboygan County, with his mother when ten years of age. Here on Sept. 8, 1872, he was married to Miss Electa Chandler. They came immediately to Clark County and took a homestead in the town of Sherman. Here were born their seven children, four girls and three boys.

For the past ten years they have resided in Granton, where they removed from the farm.

The deceased is survived by his wife and six children, the oldest daughter having passed away last July 14th. Besides these he has fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral was held May 7th, at the Union church in Granton and interment took place at the Loyal cemetery beside two of his brothers.

Those from away who attended the funeral were W. W. Chandler and son of Plymouth, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Will Witt and Mr. Day of Menomonie, Emmett Eldredge and daughter of Sac City, Iowa, Mrs. Mabel Austin of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Olive Knickel and daughter Winifred of Boardmand, Wis.

Pelander (Lon) Stevens Family

Mr. and Mrs. Lon Stevens came to Clark county from Sheboygan county in the early 1870's. They settled on a farm in Section 32 of the Town of Sherman which they homesteaded, later buying another 40 acres. They lived on this farm until 1916 when they moved to Granton to make their home.

Mr. Stevens was born in Moscow, Maine, Dec. 19, 1849, and passed away at his home in Granton on May 4, 1926. Mrs. Stevens (the former Elects Chandler) was born in Sheboygan County on May 16, 1855, and died at New Richmond, Wis., where she was staying with a daughter, Mrs. E. H. Knickel.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevens were the parents of seven children: Lizzie (Mrs. Curtiss Renne), Chauncey, Mabel (Mrs. Mabel Austtn), Edward, Ruel, Verna (Mrs. Walter Gourlie), and Olive (Mrs. Elmer Knickel).

The only survivors of this family are Mrs. W. W. Gonrlie, Lakeland, Florida, and Mrs. E. H. Knickel, Marinette, Wis. There were 18 grand-children, S of whom are deceased.
