Altemus, Esther L. (19 Dec. 1866 - 1925)

*o’clock, but did not regain consciousness. The body was taken back to Baraboo and prepared for burial, and arrived here Thursday night, accompanied by the grief-stricken husband. Mrs. Altemus, whose maiden name was Esther L. Robb, was born in the town of York, Green County, Wisconsin, Dec. 19, 1866. She grew to womanhood there and was there married to Charles S. Altemus, June 7, 1893 they moved to Kansas, living there till August,1906, whey they returned to Wisconsin, living in Edgerton and on a farm near Evansville. In January, 1914, they came to Neillsville and moved to the Youmans farm on Pleasant Ridge, having bought the farm the year previous. They lived there till the fall of 1920 when they moved to the home they had brought in Neillsville.

Mrs. Altemus was a woman of the highest type of Christian character; sincere; earnest and devoted to the best ideals of life, a kind and living wife and mother and helpful neighbor. She was a member of the Methodist church and an active helper in its activities, being president of the Ladies Aid at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband and two daughters; Emma, Mrs. Casper Marty of the town of Grant, and Phyllis, Mrs. Jos. Esselman of the town of Loyal. A little son died when they resided in Kansas. She leaves also her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelon Robb, living in Neillsville, one brother, Ralph Robb of Curtiss, and three sisters, Mrs. E. K. Loberg of Christie, Mrs. Tyler Thompson of Black Earth, Wis., and Mrs. Myrtle Altemus of Friendwood, Texas.

The funeral was held in the Methodist church Neillsville, Sunday afternoon, Rev. L. B. Colman of Woncwoc preaching the funeral sermon. This was according to the expressed wish of Mrs. Altemus some years ago when Mr. Colman was pastor here.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Willis Miller of Evansville, Misses Emma and Ida Altemus, and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Altemus and daughter, all of Stoughton, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Thompson of Black Earth, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Robb and three children of Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Soper all of Madison; Mrs. Helen Bosshart and daughter of Broadhead; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Marty of Spencer, besides the nearer by relatives and friends from Loyal and this immediate vicinity.

Miss Ida Altemus is remaining for a few days to assist at the home.
