Weaver, Barbara (11 Jul 1845 - 20 Sep 1924)

Mrs. Barbara Weaver, one of the pioneers of Clark County, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1924 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Johnson in Loyal, Clark County, aged 79 years, 2 months and 9 days. Her death was due to heart trouble and general decline.

Barbara Elizabeth Norton was born in Bartholomew Co., Indiana, July 11, 1845. She was married to Elias Weaver at Iron Ridge in Dodge Co., Wis. in 1864. They came as pioneers in Clark County with an ox team in 1867 and settled on a new farm one mile east of the village of Loyal. Here they worked and developed the farm until the spring of 1879 when they moved into the village, where she has lived ever since. For a number of years they carried on a hotel in Loyal. Mr. Weaver died 18 years ago.

Mrs. Weaver was a woman who met the duties and difficulties of life with cheerful courage. In her home and in the community she was ever ready to be of efficient service, and many who as guests at the hotel in the years gone by have kindly recollections of her bountiful services. She will be held in fond remembrance by all who knew her.

She is survived by five children: a son, E. M. Weaver of Woodruff, who came with his wife last Thursday; Mrs. Eric Arnble of Auburndale, who came Thursday; Mrs. A. K. Church of Loyal, and son Morris M. Weaver of Neillsville. She leaves also 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the M. E. Church in Loyal, the large attendance and the profusion of flowers testifying to the esteem in which Mrs. Weaver was held. Burial took place in Dodgeville Cemetery east of Loyal. The pallbearers were J. M. Philpot, Harry Heaslett, Henry Etta, O. J. Smith, James McGonigal and Albert Davel.
