Downer, Leona (4 APR 1924)

(Granton Herald)

Miss Leona Downer, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Downer, was married last Friday, April 4, 1924, at 2 p.m., to Mr. Herbert Pfeffer of Milwaukee. The ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Erwin, Mount Vernon Av., Milwaukee, Rev. Thomas Gardner, pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating.

The bride was attired in a wedding gown of Alice blue charmeuse, wore a necklace of pearls (the gift of the groom) and carried a bouquet of pink and white sweet peas. The groom wore a blue serge suit. Howard and Ruth Erwin, close friends of the bridal couple, acted as best man and bridesmaid.

The bride is well known here, being a former Granton, Clark County, Wis. High school graduate in 1920, has a host of friends and is a most capable and talented young lady. For the past two months she has been employed at the Sunny Rest sanitorium in Racine and as evidence of the esteem in which she was held a farewell party was given in her honor and she was present with a 36 piece dinner set. The groom is employed at the National Brake & Electric Co. in Milwaukee and is an estimable young man. He met his bride while working here in Granton. After the ceremony the happy couple left for a short honeymoon trip to Racine, where they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mott Osgood. They will be at home to friends in Milwaukee after April 10th. The day of the marriage was also the groom's birthday and the 24th anniversary of the wedding day of the bride's parents.
