Fowler, Oliver S.(Jan 4, 1831 - Dec 25, 1908)

Oliver S. Fowler was born at Lenox, Ashtabule Co., Ohio, Jan. 4, 1831, and died of heart failure and pneumonia at the home of his son C. D. Fowler, in Humbird, Dec.25, 1909, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was married to Julia S. Sweet April 11, 1854. They lived at Middlefield and Windose, Ohio, until 1867 when they came to Humbrid which was, at that time, still a wilderness. They settled on a tract of land near here and developed it into a fine farm on which they lived and carried on successfully for thirty-five years, when they sold it and moved to the village. There they resided until Mrs. Fowler's death Dec. 30, 1904. Since that time he has made his home with his son C. D. Fowler.

Mr. Fowler was a kind and thoughful neighbor honest in his dealins, and highly respected by all who knew him. With his death the community has lost another of its pioneers, who faced hardships with the spirit of a hero, and all of us are reminded of our coming end. Seven children, four boys and three firls were born to Mr. and Mrs. Fowler. Five of these have passed on before him to the other world. His son Ellis who went west a long time ago has not been heard from, by the family, for sever years. Cady is well and favorably know by the people of Humbird and vicinity. He with the eight grandchildren survive to mourn the death of their father and grandfather.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Smith at the M. E Church, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 27, at 1:30 o'clock and the body was laid to rest int he Houghtonburg cemetery, besdie that of his wife. The esteem with which the deceased was held in the community was shown by the large congregation present at the funeral services. A male quartet rendered appropriate music. ***Card of Thanks. We wish to express our heartfeld thanks to the friends and neightbors who were so kind and thoughtful in extending their sympathy and help during the sickness and death of our beloved father and grandfather. We desire also to thank the choir and those who sent the bearutiful flowers. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Fowler and family.
