Sr., Schwantes, Wm. (1848 - 28 March 1923)

Wm. Schwantes, Sr., one of the earliest settlers in the town of Unity died March 28 at his home in Spencer, aged 75 years. Mr. Schwantes came into the town of Unity in 1872 and opened up a farm near the county line, which remained his home till about ten years ago when he sold out and moved to Spencer. He was a leading man of his community for many years, very industrious and progressive farmer. He leaves his wife and twelve children, Wm. Schwantes, Jr., of Unity, August and Herman living near Spencer, Mrs. Albert Buss of Colby, Mrs. Sam Pockat and Mrs. Emil Pockat of Marion, Wis., Otto at Clintonville, Harry and Arthur at home, Roy at Eau Claire, Mrs. Chas. Greeler of town of York and Miss Linda Schwantes, who makes her home with her sister, Mrs. Greeler. The funeral was held at Spencer Saturday.
