Lustina L. Humiston was born in Essex County, New York, March 10, 1854, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Smith, at Allegan, Michigan, December 31, 1921. She came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1871 and was married to Jesse Humiston June 23, 1875, and moved on a little farm in the Town of York where lived for about 30 years. Her husband died in 1898. Ther were three children born to this union, one daughter, Olive, dying at the age of sixteen. Those living are Mrs. Edward Davis of this city and Mrs. Charles Smith of Allegan, Michigan. She leaves three grandchildren, a half brother and sister, William Hurlbutt of Neillsville and Mrs. Ella Poate, Taylor, Wisconsin; three step sisters, Mrs. Solome Gray, Mrs. Sylvia Gray of Colby, Wisconsin and Mrs. J. W. Lynch of Neillsville, Wisconsin. She was a member of the York Center M. E. Church, a sincere Christian woman, quiet and unassuming in her ways, but loved by all who knew her. In her death the family has lost a devoted mother and the community one who was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in trouble or distress. The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of the many friends and neighors. The funeral was held at York Center Wednesday, Rev. W. T. Scott officiating.
