Bailey, Elizabeth J. (8 JUL 1849 - 7 MAR 1923)

Mrs. Nick Bailey died Wednesday night at the home of her son George, east of town (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.), being ill only since last Sunday. She was nearly 74 years of age. The remains were taken to Dodgeville this Friday for burial.

Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Mitchell Bailey, whose demise was noted last issue, was buried at Dodgeville last Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Brief funeral services were held at her late home east of town Friday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Elmer, and the remains were taken on the noon train to Dodgeville for interment.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Dodgeville July 8, 1849, and passed away March 7, 1923, following a brief illness, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 29 days. In the year 1872 she was united in marriage with Nicholas Bailey, who preceded her in death five years ago. To them were born three children, two dying in infancy. Surviving are one son, George Bailey, three grandchildren, a niece, Miss Susan B. Mitchell of Madison, whom she raised from infancy and to whom she was a devoted mother; one sister, Mrs. Anna Bailey, and three brothers, William, John, and James Mitchell, all of Dodgeville. Another brother, Joseph, preceded her in death several years ago. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church, with which she united when a young girl. She was loved by all, and will be missed by friends, as well as by the members of the family.

Mrs. Bailey was a resident of Dodgeville for sixty-three years, and of this vicinity eleven years.
