Their union was blessed with six children, four of whom are living. In 1888 the family came to America and settled in eastern Iowa, where they lived about eighteen years. In 1906 they moved to Humbird, where the deceased spent the remainder of his life, following his profession, the mason trade, until retiring on account of old age.
He died July 29th, 1922, after an illness dating back to last November, at the age of 80 years and 1 day. He is survived by his faithful wife, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Marti, living at Monroe; one brother Henry, in Switzerland; one daughter, Mrs. Afra Gieger, living at New Liberty, Iowa; three sons, Jacob, Mathias B., and Henry, all residing in Humbird, Clark County, Wis.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the Reformed Church, Rev. Grether, the pastor, and Rev. Stucki of Black River Falls, officiating. A large congregation attended the services. Burial was in the Mentor Cemetery.
