Smith, Lyman (18 Nov 1882 - 25 Oct 1910)

This community was greatly shocked last week by the news that Lyman Smith had accidentally been killed at Willoughby, Ohio, Oct. 25, 1910, while engaged in forestry work in a park. He was trimming a tree and was up about sixty feet. In some way he lost his hold and fell to the ground, being injured so badly that he lived only five hours.

His reamins arrived her Friday morning and the funeral was held that afternoon at the Congregational Church, Rev. Risser officiating. Deceased was born Nov. 18, 1882, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Smith. He came to Neillsville with his parents. Later he learned the jewelry business and located at Granton, afterward selling out and locating at Loyal for a time. He was a man of quiet manner, but won friends by his integrity, reliability and attention to the work he had to do.

His parents and sister Eunice, who live at Ashland, Ore., could not be here at the funeral. Besides these he leaves two brothers, Dale of Sparta, Mich., Charles of Waukegan, Ill., and four sisters, Adah, now of Sparta, Mich., Mrs. H.O. Finch of Sparta, Mich., Mrs. E.C. Fisher of St. Paul, and Miss Norma Smith at Rush Lake, Wis., all of whom were her to attend the funeral.

Hi, I am trying to make a connection with the Smith - Rodman families...my ggrandmother, Ida Elizabeth Smith Rodman was married to Orson Bacon Rodman. I am working from scratch and am having some trouble. I have written to all four Smith families registered on the 1873 voters list. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me..I feel it is no coincidence that Clark Co has an Orson Bacon listed. I'm wondering if Orson Bacon Rodman's mother's maiden name was Bacon. And I read there was a Lyman Rodman...can't believe this is a coincidence. They must have been related or real good friends....Thanks in advance for your help...Kathryn
