The Arlington Hotel is receiving a good patronage, which is constantly
increasing.
Wm. Jerard, one of the oldest settlers of the Town of Thorp, and its
chairman for several years in the long ago, was in town on Monday, this
being his first visit in nearly two years.
John Verkuilen is making arrangements for building a residence on his
farm south of town the coming summer.
75 Years Ago (1932)
The baby son of Co. Lindbergh was kidnapped on Tuesday night from his
home near Hopewell, N.J.
Clark County’s marriages in 1931 reached a total of 175, marking an
increase of 14 over those of 1930, and divorces granted in this county
numbered ten, as compared with 21 for the preceding year.

Steak, sliced to order, 15˘ lb.
Wisconsin now has an estimated cattle population of 3,184,000 head, or
about one percent more than a year ago.
Wild Cherry Neighborhood – Joe Wincek’s house was destroyed by fire
Wednesday noon.
The village treasurer recently received the sum of $892, representing $1
for each inhabitant according to the census of 1930, from the state
unemployment fund.
50 Years Ago (1957)
Seven head of cattle, a 36x60 foot barn, silo, milk house and milking
equipment were destroyed in a fire of undetermined origin at the Cyril
Alger farm two miles west of Thorp on Highway 29. Straw, hay and grain
were included in the total loss.
Misses Darlene Gulcynski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gulcynski; and
Lou Ann Kaminski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kaminski were capped
in a ceremony on March 3rd at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing,
Wausau.
Fire unknown origin caused heavy damage to a bedroom and its contents at
the John Maier home, 2 miles southwest of Thorp. Smoke damage spread to
other rooms of the home.
25 Years Ago (1982)
The Thorp Production Credit Association will be holding an open house on
Friday, March 5 in the new building located at 704 S. Clark Street in
Thorp.
The Chequamegon DAR Chapter of Ladysmith sponsored the Daughters of the
American Revolution Good Citizen contest at Thorp High School. Lisa
Baker, daughter of Ruth Baker, was selected as Thorp’s representative
for the DAR award.
Selected as Badger Girl is Terry Wetzel and Badger Boy is Jay Stuttgen.
Alternatives are James Langteau and Jennifer Osowski.
10 Years Ago (1997)
City Side Liquidators opened for business in the old Ben Franklin
Building. Roxie, Roger and Janette Copas own the store here in Thorp as
well as stores in Stanley and Cornell.
