The Highground held a Memorial Day celebration Monday, May 30, entitled “Remembering their sacrifice.”

Warm, sunny skies welcomed hundreds of visitors to The Highground for the celebration.  The replica Liberty Bell tolled; Neillsville American Legion Post 73 and Loyal American Legion Post 175 color guards displayed their colors.

Highground Volunteer General Manager Kirk Rodman welcomed guests.  Fort McCoy Chaplain Tom Shepard gave the invocation.  First Lieutenant Lam D. Chu, also of Fort McCoy, was the guest speaker.

A young volunteer led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Miles Voss led visitors in singing the “Star Spangled Banner.”

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) State Director Stan Gruszynski gave a short presentation.

After the Honor Guard fired and Ron Vine played “Taps,” the names of Wisconsin soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were read.  Visitors joined the talking circle and talked about their beloved veterans.

Memorial Day was wonderful at The Highground.

“The Highground is a place for all of us.”
