Legion Volunteers place flags at graves

Neillsville American Legion Post 73 volunteer Bob Shaw (above) places a U. S. flag at a Neillsville City Cemetery grave Wednesday, May 25, to observe Memorial Day.  Shaw and other Legion volunteers (below) placed flags on permanent grave markers in Neillsville cemeteries to prepare for this year’s Memorial Day observance.  Over 600 flags were placed on the graves of both men and women to recognize their service to the country in past wars and military actions. The Clark County Veterans Service Office provided the flags, by state statute, to cities and towns for this purpose.  This volunteer effort is an annual activity.  The flags usually remain in place through the July 4 celebration.  (Contributed photos)
