Proposed New Wisconsin County Called "Rivers"

Below is presented a diagram of the three counties of Wood, Clark and Marathon, from which it is proposed to create the new county of Rivers. The diagram above, of the county of Rivers, is drawn on the same scale, and shows the comparatively small amount of territory taken from each county.  The diagrams also show better than words can tell, the necessity of creating a new county. Such a county means economy, a more rapid development, lighter taxes, self government for a territory with a community of interests, and the greatest convenience for all the towns within the proposed new lines.  Every point in the new county would have a direct line of railroad to the proposed new county seat.  The diagram below shows the county seats of the old counties, and it will not take a great deal of study to understand the extraordinary expense and many inconveniences of long and tedious journeys, which are now necessary to get to them.  Almost everyone living within the lines of the new county must now pass through Marshfield to get to their seat of government,  either in Wood, Clark or Marathon counties.
