Hantke, Anthony J. (9 August 1901 – 19 September 1982)

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, September 22, for Anthony J. Hantke, 81, who passed away on Sunday morning, September 19, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated at the service which was held at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Hantke was born On August 9, 1901, in the Town of Grant to Otto and Mamie (Lezotte) Hantke. After his education in Grant schools, he worked with his father and also in logging camps. He later moved to Neillsville where he was employed by both the Ford and Kurth Garages.

On September 20, 1924, he married Hazel M. Schultz in Winona, Minnesota, ceremonies. During the 1930s, Hantke was distributor for Conoco and Sinclair Oil in the Neillsville area. A decade later, he purchased a rural milk route and was associated with Neillsville Products until 1950. He then worked for the Clark County Highway Department until retiring in 1966. After his retirement, he continued to work part-time at various jobs, including work at the Neillsville City Cemetery. Hantke was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Surviving him, besides his wife, is a son, Douglas, St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Elsie Wolf, Neillsville; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob; a daughter, Betty; a sister, Lillie; and two brothers, Leo and Reuben.
