Robert Duane Gunderson Jr. "Gunner", of Hawkins, passed away at age 87, on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Ladysmith Nursing Home.

Robert was born on Aug. 16, 1931, in Ladysmith, to the late Margaret and Robert Gunderson Sr. He developed a love for the outdoors at an early age while growing up in logging camps north of Hawkins and in Ely, Minn. He attended elementary and middle school in Minnesota and high school in Hawkins.

Robert proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. After returning home from his tour he worked at Northern Sash and Door Company. In 1965 he enrolled in Madison Technical College and graduated as a barber. He barbered in Phillips for several years then opened his own shop in Hawkins. Later he went back to work at Norco Windows and barbered only on Saturdays until he retired in 1995.

He loved hunting, fishing, wood working, oil painting and spending time at his cabin on the South Fork of the Flambeau River with family and friends. He was a member of Hawkins Lion's Club and SnoHawks Snowmobile Club. His sense of humor and stories will be missed by all.
