Helmuth, Arthur Cleon (13 MAR 1932 - 23 FEB 2019)

Arthur Cleon Helmuth, 86, of Sun City West, Ariz., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2019, from liver cancer.

He was born on March 13, 1932 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Samuel and Geneva (Klingelsmith) Helmuth, growing up near Ladysmith. In 1956 he married Roberta Caylor. Arthur earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, later working as a researcher for Dr. Harry Waisman at the Kennedy Labs, then at the Waisman Center, assisting with research including newborn phenylketonuria testing.

In 1976, Arthur, Roberta and three children moved to majestic Alaska. There, when not fishing or hunting, he worked as a chemist, then criminologist for the State Crime lab. He subsequently worked, then retired from the Tesoro Alaska oil refinery in Kenai. Following Roberta’s passing in 2012, Arthur moved to sunny Arizona.

Arthur is survived by his son, Craig (Katherine) Helmuth of Fairbanks; his daughter, Valerie (Richard) Johnston of Wasilla; his grandson, Rhobert Johnston of Wasilla; his brothers, Wilbur Helmuth of Madison, Harold Helmuth and Glenn (Katie) Helmuth, both of Glen Flora; his beloved friend, M. Kathleen Guyer of Phoenix and many extended family.

He was preceded in death by wife, Roberta; his parents; his sisters, Verda, Vivian and Vesta and his son, Brian.

No service is planned at this time.

Arthur requested donations be made to a favorite charity in lieu of any other memorial.

Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Chapel in Arizona.
