Wentworth, Melvin (1872-23 May 1940

Neillsville--Coroner P. C. Ludovic today pronounced as suicide the
death of Melvin Wentworth, 68, whose body was found suspended in his log
hut in Beaver Township this morning.

A neighbor, suspicious at sight of an open door, investigated and
found the body. Ludovic said death had evidently occurred at about
sundown last night.

Wentworth had slashed his wrists with a razor before hanging himself,
according to the coroner. he had been in poor health for several weeks,
it was learned, but had continued to be active.

A painter and decorator by profession, he had been a resident of the
Loyal Community since 1918. His first wife (Emma Kerney) died and he was
married a second time in 1922 (to Hazel Nichols-Eggett), but divorced in
1934. He leaves five children, but authorities have not determined their
whereabouts.

It is expected that funeral rites will be conducted Monday and that
burial will take place in the Beaver Township cemetery. Coroner Ludovic
said no inquest would be held.
