Schoolcraft, Mildred E. (20 May 1926 – 22 February 2019)

Mildred E. Schoolcraft (92) of Neillsville (formerly of Black River Falls) passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Neillsville Care and Rehab Center, Neillsville, WI. Mildred was born May 20, 1926 in the Town of Franklin, Jackson County to Oscar and Julia (Tollefson) Ronning.

She attended the West Franklin School and graduated from Melrose High School in 1945. Mildred was united in marriage to James R. (Jim) Schoolcraft on June 8, 1946 at the home farm (Town of Franklin) rural Melrose. They lived their entire married life of 62 years in the Black River Falls area. James passed away July 12, 2008. On the day Mildred was confirmed at Upper Beaver Creek Church (Town of Franklin) December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan making it a day she would never forget.

Jim and Mildred enjoyed traveling to the western states, especially to North and South Dakota. They also loved taking Wisconsin road trips that would last anywhere from 2 to 5 days. When their grandchildren were old enough, they would take them along too (one at a time). They loved getting together with family and friends.

On July 25, 2015 Mildred moved in with her daughter, son-in-law Ken and granddaughter Julie Kuhn of Neillsville where she resided until February 4, 2019. Julie was grandma’s helper and worried about grandma and would keep asking grandma if she was “OK” a lot. Mildred got started on Word Search magazines and thoroughly enjoyed them.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen (Kenneth) Kuhn, Neillsville; granddaughter, Julie Kuhn, Neillsville; grandsons, Christopher (Jessica) Kuhn, Waupun, and Steven (fiancée Catherine Clark) Oak Park, IL. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Mykayla, Alexa, Mason, twins Marcus and Conner Kuhn of Waupun. She is also survived by her brother Donald (Virginia) Ronning of Ettrick; sisters-in-law Elsie Ronning, Ettrick, and Janice Ronning, Melrose, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents, sister Judith Smikrud, brothers Orvis, Curtis, and Lloyd, brother-in-law Orville Smikrud and sister-in-law Eunice Ronning.

Mildred will be greatly missed by her family, relatives and many friends.

At Mildred’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, 100 N 4th St., Black River Falls, WI 54615.
