Glenn Levi Struss passed away on January 26, 2019 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, SD.

The son of Carl and Augusta (Erickson) Struss, Glenn was born September 18, 1921, in Codington County, SD. He graduated from South Shore High School in 1939.

Glenn was inducted into the Army in 1942, serving as a radio technician. He was stationed in Hawaii for two years. He married Celia Burnham in 1944, and she was able to be with him for part of his tour of duty in Hawaii. Glenn reenlisted in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. They lived in Watertown, SD, after his discharge, where he worked for the Watertown Public Opinion newspaper, moving to Huron in 1955 to work at the Huron Daily Plainsman newspaper. They raised three children, Allen, Patricia, and Janet during their time in Huron.

After Celia’s death in 1979, Glenn married Jean Jensen in 1982. They lived in Kentucky for a time, moving to Wisconsin where he worked for the Clark County Press for 10 of the 20 years they lived on Lake Mead, returning to Watertown, SD, in 2004.

Glenn’s life-long love of carpentry followed him wherever he lived, building furniture and other woodworking projects. He moved to Mother Joseph Manor after Jean passed away in 2014, living there until his death.

He is survived by his son Allen Smokey Struss, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters Patti Heintz, Pierre, SD, and Jan Beckler, Aberdeen, SD. Grandchildren Angela (David) Nelson, Chad Struss, Elizabeth (Chris) Henrichsen, Amy (Dennis) Hotchkin, Dustin (Kaitlin) Malsom, Becky (Will) Crosby; nieces and nephews, and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, wife Celia and wife Jean.
