Van Dreel, Anton (16 MAR 1875 – 6 AUG 1969)
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 1969 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at Milan for Anton Van Dreel, 94, of Milan (Marathon Co., Wis.), a former Abbotsford area resident.
Mr. Van Dreel died Wednesday evening, August 6, 1969, at the Wausau Infirmary, where he had been a resident. Father Smith of Athens officiated at the funeral services. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Six grandsons served as pallbearers. They were Alvin and Lloyd Amacher, Melvin and Ronald Carter, and Elroy and Sylvester "Sonny" Diers.
Altar boys for the funeral mass and committal rites were two great-grandsons, Clyde and Gerard Schreiber of Milan.
The Gilles and Son Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Van Dreel was born at Freedom, Wisconsin, March 15, 1875. On November 28, 1905, he married the former Elizabeth Van Den Broek at St. John's Catholic Church at Little Chute, Wisconsin. The couple farmed in the town of Frankfort for 36 years, moving to Abbotsford in 1941, and to Milan nine years later.
He lived there until 1967, when he became a patient at the Wausau Infirmary.
Mr. Van Dreel was preceded in death by his wife, who died in June 1959, and by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence, address unknown, and three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Henrietta) Diers of Athens, Mrs. Alfred (Leona) Carter, and Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Amacher of Abbotsford.
There are 20 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Henry of Edgar and George of Appleton, and a sister, Mrs. John Hinkens of Little Chute.
Relatives and friends attending the funeral came from Marquette, Michigan, De Pere, Appleton, Little Chute, Wisconsin Rapids, Kewaunee, Oconto Falls, Catawba, Mosinee, Marathon, Stratford, Marshfield, Colby, Abbotsford and the surrounding area.
