Trunkel, John (24 December 1886 – 15 March1975)

A retired Willard area farmer, John Trunkel, Sr., of Neillsville, died Saturday, March 15, at the age of 88. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Mertens of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Trunkel was born December 24, 1886, at Krak, Yugoslavia, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Trunkel. He received his education in Yugoslavia before coming to the United States as a youth, then lived in Illinois where he farmed. His marriage to the former Lyda Vickers, who preceded him in death in 1940, took place at Seneca, Illinois.

The Trunkels moved to the Willard area in 1920 and Mr. Trunkel farmed there until his retirement in 1962. He had been a resident of the Bryan Home for the past five years.

Survivors include one son, John Trunkel, Jr., of Willard and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
