Six criminal cases settled in court

Four violators of liquor laws were fined and ordered to pay costs of prosecution in Circuit Court, Saturday, April 23, after having entered pleas of guilty of nolo contendere.

Judge Emery W. Crosby, presided and Judge M. Peterson appeared for the state.

All were arrested upon complaint of the State Treasury Department agents for selling malt beverages without first having obtained a license of permit required by the particular town, village or city where they resided.

The defendants were George Becker, village of Thorp, Ed and Martha Horner, town of Green Grove and Eph Ohmen, town of Green Grove.

Math Ruzich, of the town of Hendren, pleaded guilty of having set fire on his own lands and allowing it to escape to adjoining lands and was fined and ordered to pay cost of prosecution.

State officials and district fire wardens are very anxious to see that all violators of the law with reference to fires are apprehended and prosecuted for the reason that the state is making every effort to reduce the hazard in forested areas.

Paul Yonker, town of Hewett, pleaded guilty to resisting an officer while making an arrest.

Complaint was made by Ray Kutsche, Undersheriff. Defendant was given on year in county jail and paroled to the State Board of Control.
