Bertz, Jerome "Whitey" (16 JUL 1913 – 30 SEP 1973)

Jerome "Whitey" Bertz, 60, 210 W. South Street, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), died at 7:05 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 1973, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greenwood, with burial at Greenwood. The Rev. David E. Wenger will officiate.

The Loyal masonic Lodge 335 conducted a service at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rinka Funeral Home.

The Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Full Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post of Loyal.

Jerome Bertz was born on July 16, 1913 in the Town of Loyal. He received his education at the Lyons school, St. Anthony's School and Loyal High School.

He was married on October 30, 1948, at Chicago, to Ruth Turnquist, who survives him.

Jerome Bertz was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army from February 21, 1941 to March 11, 1944. He was a holder of the Silver Star Medal and was a member of the VFW 9773. He was a former commander of the Loyal American Legion. In 1948 he built a root beer stand in Loyal and operated that until 1954. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and was also a member of the Loyal Masonic Lodge No. 335.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Leo, Pembine, Wis., Harold (Pat), Loyal, and John, Greenwood; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Haas, Seattle, Wash., Mrs. R.W. (Evelyn) Eggensted, Lecanton, Florida, and Mrs. Robert (Gwendolyn) Strathman, Colby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
