Horehled, Joseph J. (14 June 1888 – 30 January 1975)

Funeral services for a longtime Town of Washburn farmer, Joseph J. Horehled, 86, of Rt. 3 Neillsville, were held Saturday from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home. Mr. Horehled died Thursday, January 30, at Black River Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. The Rev. D. E. Sprague of the Assembly of God Church officiated, and interment followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Joseph Horehled was born June 14, 1888, in Yugoslavia and was educated there. He came to the United States at the age of 19 and lived for several years in Chicago, Il., where he was a machinist on a railroad. Mr. Horehled moved to Clark County as a young man and farmed in the Town of Washburn during the remainder of his lifetime. He first marriage was to the former Elizabeth Spaete, who preceded him in death. He was married to the former Lena E. Marshall, who survives him, on October 8, 1967, in Neillsville.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two children: Ernest Horehled of Neillsville and Mrs. Warren (Erna) Cattanach of Nashville, Tn.; four step-children: Norbert Marshall and LeRoy Marshall of Neillsville, George Marshall of Hixton and Mrs. Alvin (Anita) Eggen of Alexandria, Mn.; three sisters: Mrs. Harry (Nettie) Hardy and Mrs. Stazie Rezeba of Melrose Park, Il., and Mrs. Mary Jacka of Brookfield, Il.; and 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Matousek, Frank Kaczor, Joseph Kaczor, Donald Meihack, Robert Sebesta and Charles Neff.

Harold Schlinsog sang “In the Garden” and “Abide with Mr.” Mrs. Anton Bezlyk was the accompanist.

Among those attended the services were the following from out of town: Mrs. Warren Cattanach, Nashville, Tn.; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Krause and family, Markesan; Mr. and Mrs. Richard McFarland, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Eggen and family, Alexandria, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. George Marshall and family, Hixton; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cattanach, Granton; and Mr. and Mrs. George Hohmann, Milwaukee. Many other friends and relatives were also in attendance.
