Volk, Albert (14 January 1916 – 30 April 2018) With Flag
Albert Volk, age 102 of Neillsville, WI died Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Care
& Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.
Albert Volk was born on January 14, 1916 in Willard, WI the son of Frank & Mary
(Zitnik) Volk. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1933 and then attended
Teacher’s College in Eau Claire. After two years, he graduated with a teaching
degree and then taught in Willard and at a one-room schoolhouse in Greenwood,
before being drafted into the United States Army in 1941. Albert served for four
years as a tech sergeant during World War II stationed in Panama. He was
honorably discharged in 1945 and then went back to teaching. Eventually, he took
a job in Madison, WI at the Department of Transportation, while in Madison
Albert also taught a typing class at the University. He was united in marriage
to Pauline Perushek in Willard in the 1950’s, and they enjoyed their
twice-yearly trips to the Lady Luck Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Albert retired in
the 1970’s, Pauline died in 1997, and in 2000 Albert moved to Neillsville to
live with his niece.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville and a volunteer at
the VA Hospital in Madison, while living there.
Albert is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Mary (Steven) Hinkle
and their daughter Mary Anne Hinkle all of Neillsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, his parents and many nieces and
nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11,
2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. Rev. Varkey V. Joseph will be
the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Willard
at a later date. The Neillsville Veteran’s Council will perform military Honors.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church.
