Maki, Violet Doris (Keto) Wasti (15 JAN 1928 - 25 FEB 2018)

Violet Doris Maki, 90, Phillips, longtime Brantwood and Tomahawk resident, died in the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

She was born in Brantwood on January 15, 1928, the daughter of Andrew and Esther (Niemi) Keto. She was a 1946 graduate of the Tripoli High School. She was married to Wilbert Wasti in Brantwood on July 3, 1949 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1969. She was married to Oiva Maki on October 30, 1976, and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2018.

She was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Tomahawk where she was active there in the LWML and the Altar Guild, she was a member of the Finnish American Society, and had served as a 4H Leader where she served as a Sewing Leader. In her free time she enjoyed working as a seamstress, baking Finnish bread, cooking, playing Yahtzee, dancing, was an avid fan of all Wisconsin sports, and most important, spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Randy) Hueckman, Prentice, and Kim (Mark) Heikkinen, Las Vegas, NV; by three grandsons, Scott (Meredith), Brett (Chelsie), and Seth (Mallory); by 14 great grandchildren; by one sister-in-law, Doris Wasti; and by one brother-in-law, Robert (Shirley) Wasti.

She is preceded in death by her husband’s; by four brothers, Andrew, Fred, Oscar, and Melvin Keto; and by five sisters, Helga Henderson, Vieno Fleury, Mae Germanson, Fannie Schneeweis, and Hilda Koss.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 4, at the Ogema Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Price officiating. Interment will be in the Prentice Cemetery in Prentice, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of a donation to the Knox Creek Heritage Association or the Brantwood Community Center in Violet’s memory.
