Benson, Shirley Grace (Joyner) (17 APR 1928 - 24 FEB 2018)

Shirley Grace Benson, 89, of Bruce, died on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Ladysmith Care Community, surrounded by her family.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Jim (Joan) Graves and Dave (Lisa) Graves of Exeland, Bob (Lorrie) Graves of Bruce; daughters, Kathy Pokel and Marianne Graves of Exeland, Sue (Don) Mansky and Nancy (Jim) Booth of Bruce, 23 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren, her brother, Wayne (Mavis) of Exeland and sister Leona Winter of Radisson, many nieces and nephews and her circle of friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. and luncheon to follow.

Shirley Grace Benson, 89, of Bruce, died on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at Ladysmith Care Community, surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born on April 17, 1928 to Agnes and Horace Joyner and lived all her life in the Exeland and Bruce area, graduating from Bruce High School. She worked for the Diederich Ins. Co. for 26 years. After retiring she went to work at the Rusk County Visitors Center.

She was a founder and lifelong member of the Bruce Area Historical Society. She did extensive genealogy research for many families. She wrote many articles that were published in papers and magazines. Shirley’s love of learning and willingness to share her knowledge was welcomed by many.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Jim (Joan) Graves and Dave (Lisa) Graves of Exeland and Bob (Lorrie) Graves of Bruce; her daughters, Kathy Pokel and Marianne Graves of Exeland, Sue (Don) Mansky and Nancy (Jim) Booth of Bruce; 23 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne (Mavis) of Exeland and her sister, Leona Winter of Radisson, many nieces and nephews and her circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Benson; her parents, Agnes and Horace Joyner; her brother, Michael Joyner and her brother-in-law, Donald Winter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3 at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. and luncheon to follow.
