Haas, George H. (13 DEC 1924 – 13 FEB 2018)

Colby - George H. Haas, age 93, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Colonial Center under the tender care of hospice.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Interment to follow at Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

George was born on December 13, 1924, the son of William and Edna (Scheelk) Haas, Sr. in Stetsonville. He was united in marriage to the former Maxine Farning on October 1, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Together they farmed in the Town of Hull with his brothers and then later on their own. George also served as the Town of Hull Supervisor. After retiring from the farm, they moved to Colby. George was a caretaker of a housing unit in Colby.

George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and was a member of the Men's Club. He also was a member of the Farmers Union. George loved horses, horse pulls and tractor pulls. He also liked to dance, play cards, travel and visit with family and friends. George especially cherished his family.

George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine of Colby; four children: Russell Haas of Unity, Vicki Baumann of Colby, Rhonda (Robert) Garrett of Wausau and Diane (Leonard) Schindler of Colby; 12 grandchildren: Ryan, Katie, Renee, Erin, Sherri, Lee, Sheila, Corey, Caitlin, Travis, Garrett and Kalli; 11 great-grandchildren: Finley, Cora, Nova, Peyton, Serina, Angel, Amy, Edric, Benjamin, Abigail and Owen. He is further survived by three sisters: Elaine Schultz of Colby, Ella Huckbody of Wausau and Doris (Bruce) Wussow of Stratford; three sisters-in-law: Anne Farning of Onalaska, Isabelle Haas of Colby and Marian Haas of Unity; a brother-in-law, Harold Baumgartner of Cook, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Arthur Haas, Elmer (Evie) Haas and William Haas, Jr.; a great-grandson, William George Baumann; a son-in-law, Robert Schmitt; brothers-in-law: Max Farning, Jerome Schultz and Howard Huckbody and sisters-in-law: Irene (Eugene) Smazal, Myrtle Baumgartner, Rose (William) Skwarski and Helen (Howard) Dammrow.
