Ciolkosz, Leonard N. (18 JUN 1934 – 13 JAN 2018)

Leonard Norbert Ciolkosz, age 83, born and raised in Thorp, resident of Woodruff, passed away January 15,2018 in Minocqua, WI.

Leonard was born June 18, 1934, in the Town o£ Thorp, Clark County, the son of Louis and Victoria (Opon) Ciolkosz. He grew up on the family farm in Thorp. He then left to serve on active duty status with the US Army from 1957 - 1959, stationed in Germany. Upon return, he was united in marriage to Joanne Slusarek on July 18, 1960. He purchased and owned an Enco Gas Station in Chicago for two years, beginning his career in the Transportation-Trucking Industry. He first started at Sioux Transportation and also Consolidated Freightways for twenty years in the Chicago area. He ultimately finished his career with Hyman Freightways, where he retired in 1996. Through the years he held many titles, such as a Working Supervisor.

Once retired he was able to enjoy retirement "Up North" at their lake house in Woodruff, WI. Leonard enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening and planting his flowers. He also enjoyed boating in his pontoon on the Chain of Lake in the Minocqua area. He was an active parishioner and member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff. Leonard was also fortunate to take a trip to Poland where he stayed with friends who showed him Skrzynksie Parish, the area where his family is from. He saw many historical sites and learned how they farm in Poland. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. But most important to Leonard was his family and telling stories about his past or the "right" way to do something. He was always sure to tell his loved ones "Love you more." Leonard loved people and made an impact on everyone he met.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne; two sons: Richard of Collingswood, NJ and Thomas Ciolkosz of Lovettsville, VA; three daughters: Pamela Ciolkosz of Downers Grove, IL; Nancy Reif of Pooler, GA and Jennifer (Scott) Waletzke of Cumming, GA; nine grandchildren: Kimmie, Daniel, Jason, Megan, Olivia, Addie, William, Andrew and Thomas; one brother, Mitchell (Pat) of Bloomer, WI; one sister, Dolores Patterson of Thorp; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death tfy his parents; brothers: Ronald, Erwin and Edward; and listers: Virginia Burzynski and Bernadette Jakubowicz.

A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at St. Mary's Czestochowa Catholic Church, rural Stanley, with Father Janusz Kowalski officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, with an 8 p.m. Knights of Columbus service, and Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of departure to the church.
