Augustine, Loretta L. (Hardt) (16 SEP 1922 - 6 OCT 2017)

Loretta L. Augustine, age 95, of Monroe, formerly of Columbus, died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1922, in Athens to Herman and Meta (Woellner) Hardt. She was married to Clarence Augustine on June 12, 1943, in Athens.

Most of their married life was spent in a close-knit neighborhood of Chicago where lifelong friendships were made. The couple later built a home in Columbus and spent their retirement years there. Loretta was a homemaker in every sense. She was generous in word and deed. She was also a caregiver and, as such, truly appreciated the care she was given while in failing health. Loretta loved to cook and share meals with others. She always wanted to look her best. Her connections with family and friends were many and lasting. As a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, she loved and trusted in her Lord.

Survivors include her son, Dallas (Linda) of Argyle; her daughter, Nancy (John) Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Melinda Rice, David (Marie) Augustine, Chris Davis, Heather (John) Billesbach and Mark (Stephanie) Davis; six great-grandchildren, Keagan and Kaitlin Rice, Cooper and Ketra Augustine, Taylor and Conner Billesbach; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2004; three sisters, Hilda Krakowski, Frieda Molnar and Linda Schmitt; a brother, Elmer Hardt; and her twin brother, Lawrence “Butch” Hardt. She was the last surviving sibling and often spoke of re-uniting with them in heaven.

A 10 a.m. visitation and 11 a.m. memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbus. Rev. Robert Wilke will preside. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus.

Jensen Funeral and Cremation, Columbus, assisted the family. Online condolences may be given at www.jensenfuneralcremation.com
