Johnson, Delores L. “Skinny” (Zuidmulder) (2 JUN 1928 - 2 AUG 2017)

Delores L. “Skinny” Johnson, 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Stoney River Memory Care, Marshfield.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, where the visitation will be held from 9 a.m. on Friday until service time. Rev. Sue Eidahl presided. Burial took place in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home assisted the family.

Delores was born on June 2, 1928, in Wakefield, Mich., to Christopher and Olive (Bay) Zuidmulder. She had 12 brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Eleanor, Opel, Kathryn, Jean, Pat “Zeke,” Chris “Butch,” Lois, Marianna, Christine, Karen and Mary. The Zuidmulders lived in a two bedroom home in Wakefield, attending Wakefield schools, where Delores graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Daniel J. Johnson on July 14, 1947, in Green Bay.

Delores was a great cook, preparing wild game and fish, and was a great baker and canner, as Mom and Dad provided most of their food through gardening and hunting/fishing. Mom and Dad had six boys, Joel (born/died 1948), Roger (1949), Donald (1950), Forrest “Speedy” (1951), Jeffrey (1953) and Peter (1971). Mom and Dad had a late surprise in a son, Peter, born in 1971. Peter passed in 1979 from pneumonia. Shortly thereafter, Mom and Dad retired and moved up north to their cabin on 40 acres of land in Harrison Hills. They loved their home, living up north and the privacy it provided. Mom and Dad lived up north for 35 years and were happily married for almost 69 years. Dad passed away on April 20, 2016. Mom then moved to Stoney River Memory Care Facility in Marshfield where a great staff took good care of her. Her independent spirit, love of family and wonderful cooking skills will be dearly missed and remembered.

Delores is survived by three sons, Roger (Judy) Johnson of Deerfield, Forrest “Speedy” (Roseann) Johnson of Stratford and Jeff (Sheryl) Johnson of Stratford. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by sisters, Irene, Christine and Marianna; and her brother, Pat.

She was predeceased her parents; her husband; three sons, Peter, Joel and Donald Johnson; seven sisters; and one brother.
