Knecht, Rolland E. (28 OCT 1916 - 13 APR 2017)

Rolland E. Knecht, age 92, of Unity, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital-Marshfield.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the Town of Green Grove. Rev. Donald Bruce will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at
the church.

Rolland was born on May 4, 1924, the son of Edward and Selma (Tessmer) Knecht in Winona, MN. They moved to Unity after he was six months old and Rolland took over the farm. He sold the farm in 2015.

Rolland was united in marriage to Vernetta Laabs on May 17, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Grove. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1987.

Rolland is survived by his two sons: Kenneth (Sandra) of Wausau and Robert of Spencer; six grandchildren: Michele, Joshua, Justin, David, Bradley and Andy; 16 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his sister, Ardina "Babe" Alexander of Spencer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vernetta; his brothers, Herb and Carl; his sister Bernadine Witte and a daughter-in-law, Joan.
