Jerina, Fred J. “Fritz” (20 May 1916 – 4 May 2007) With Flag

Fred J. “Fritz” Jerina, 90, of Wadsworth, IL, formerly of Waukegan passed away on Friday, May 4, 2007, at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan.

Born May 20, 1916 in Owen, WI, he married Frances B. Jappel on November 9, 1946, at Mother of God Church in Waukegan. He retired from Johnson Motors in Waukegan in 1981 as a Die Repairman after 30 years of employment.

Fred was a member of St. Dismas Church, former parishioner of Mother of God Church and Queen of Peace Church, St. Mary’s KSKJ #79 & SNPJ Lodge #14. After retirement, he played in various “buttonbox” groups in the area. He was a veteran of World War KK having served in the U. S. Army as a S/Sgt. Stationed in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his wife, Frances B. Jerina; five children, Mary Ann (William) Sherrill of Lindenhurst IL, Fred R. Jerina of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Debra) Jerina of Omaha, NE, Matthew (Kim) Jerina of Wadsworth, IL, and Anthony (Lori) Jerina of Crete, NE; nine grandchildren: Katie, Brian, Kammie, Matt Jr., Philip, Steven, Daniel, Rebecca, and Chris. Two great-grandchildren, Grace and Ella; three sisters, Sophie Mivshek of Waukegan, Frances (Bill) Hemersbach of Park City, IL, and Anne (Tony) Lesnak of Waukegan; as well as one brother, Frank (Frances) Jerina of Waukegan, and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (nee Cerk) Jerina, three sisters, Mary Kinsey, Emma Merlock and Jennie Mulligan.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Ave, Waukegan with Fred’s nephew Fr. Richard Cerpich officiating. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Friends may gather at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until time of Mass only.

Arrangements were under the care of the Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 old Grand Ave., Gurnee (847)-244-1155.
