Stoppelmoor, Merle Eugene (22 DEC 1942 - 2 MAR 2017)

Merle Eugene Stoppelmoor, age 74, of Spencer, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home in Abbotsford.

Merle was born on December 22, 1942 in Butler County, IA the son of Rudolph and Grace (Busma) Stoppelmoor. He was the youngest of 4 children. He spent his entire childhood and early adult life on the family farm. He attended New Hartford School and graduated in 1961. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jo Schwennen on August 3, 1963 at Little Brown Church near Nashua, IA.

Merle was a farmer all of his life or as he put it "since before he was born," but he also worked off the farm at different jobs. He worked for Clay Equipment in Cedar Falls, IA, Chamberlain Mfg and John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, IA, and White Farm Equipment in Charles City, IA. He also did some road construction and was a truck driver for many years.

In 1991, Merle and Jo sold their farm in Minnesota and moved to a farm just west of Unity, where they lived for 18 years. After selling the dairy cows, he continued to farm the land. He also drove a truck part time for Marshfield Scrap before retiring and moving to their present farm near Spencer. He said he needed something to do, so he continued to farm his 40 acres. When he wasn't busy on the farm, he and Jo enjoyed traveling to visit friends and relatives and going to farm shows, and collecting farm toys. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, playing cards, and going to bingo at Hardees in Colby and the Marshfield Senior Center, where he made many friends.

Merle is survived by his wife, Nancy Jo of 53 years; two daughters: Lisa (Brian) Albrecht and Amy (Chris) Mulyck both of Winona, MN; a son: Steven (Tami) of Fountain City, WI; four beloved grandchildren: Amber Mulyck of Spencer, and Kaleb, Landon, and Nathan Stoppelmoor all of Fountain City, WI; and great granddaughter Rayne Mulyck-Marklowitz, who was his shadow, playmate and #1 fan. He is further survived by a sister: Sharon (George) Kozjak of Granite City, IL, and a brother: Lowell Stoppelmoor of Roberts, WI, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Evelyn Webber; two sisters-in-law: Darla Stoppelmoor and (Some of text missing)
