Boehm, Joan Marie (Hornung) (30 AUG 1929 - 1 FEB 2017)

Joan Marie Boehm, 87, passed away peacefully at Wellington Place on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1929, in Marathon, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Murr) Hornung.

During her childhood, she lived just south-east of Marathon and graduated from Marathon High School in 1948 and then married Mark Boehm on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2010.

The Boehm’s farmed in Halder until 1970, then moved to Wausau. She worked in management as an assistant housekeeper at the Wausau Hospital, now known as Aspirus, until her retirement in 1992. Joan and Mark enjoyed traveling. They went on several bus trips to various places in the U.S. and attended many Brewer games.

Among her favorite pastimes were gambling, playing cribbage and playing sheepshead at family and holiday gatherings and most recently enjoyed playing cribbage and king’s corner with Mary Jo and Marion at Wellington Place.

She was a wonderful wife, a great mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her children, Glen (Kathy) Boehm, Mosinee, Mark Boehm, Wausau, Jean (Gregg) Laffin, Ixonia, and Lois (Reg) Konkol, Hatley; and her grandchildren, Dan Boehm, Patrick (Alison) Boehm, Doug Martin, Matthew (Tricia) Laffin and their children, Zophyah, Connor and Aron, Michael (Miranda) Laffin and their children, Kaine and Charlotte, Jennifer Laffin, Jordan Konkol, and Shannon Konkol.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; her daughter, Kathy Martin; her son-in-law, David Martin; and her granddaughter, Teresa Boehm. She was also preceded in death by all her siblings and their spouses, as well as her deceased husband’s siblings and their spouses except for one sister-in-law, Laverna Boehm, Eau Claire.

The memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Friends called on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Wellington Place and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the care given to Joan.
