Schroeder, Raymond A. “Dutch” (29 MAY 1910 - 9 APR 1987)

Funeral services were conducted here Monday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for Raymond A. “Dutch” Schroeder, 76 year old Town of Grover resident who died Thursday afternoon. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital, Medford, after becoming ill at his home.

Rev. Warren Behling officiated and burial took place in the Perkinstown Community Cemetery in the Town of Grover.

Serving as pallbearers were Harvey Faude, Glen and Arnold Ogle, Jerry Krug, Norman Skabroud and Duane Schwarz.

The body lay in state at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford.

Mr. Schroeder, son of the late Fredrich and Mina (Zerbel) Schroeder, was born May 29, 1910, at Dundee, Ill., and attended the area schools at Elgin, Ill. He moved to Taylor County in the early 1930’s with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

His marriage to Erna Westrich, who survives, took place December 23, 1935, at St. Paul.

Mr. Schroeder was employed in logging and farming in the Town of Grover, He also served as a forestry aide with the US Forestry Service for 23 years. After his retirement in 1973, he continued to reside in the Town of Grover. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Faye Schroeder, Rapid city, S. Dak., and Marie, Mrs. Curtiss Volz, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; a son, Thomas, Rapid City, and a sister, Mrs. Marie Rahn, Elgin, Ill., and a brother, Clifford, Seattle, Wash.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
