Verna Elnora Grobe was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in Chili, the daughter of Edwin and Adelia (nee Lustig) Grobe. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Purdy School and Marshfield High School. As a young girl, Verna would visit her grandmother, Annie, while going to school. She married Leo C. Roehl on April 19, 1947, at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. Verna was a homemaker, raising three children, and helped her husband on the farm for 40 years. She also worked at Farmers Co-op. She was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and a Sunday School and VBS teacher. Verna was also a member of the Clark County Homemakers for many years. She loved spending time with her family, playing cards and fishing, and they always planned an annual fishing trip somewhere. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking, and baking, especially her cream puffs. Verna collected bells from places she traveled, and later on, her children and grandchildren brought her bells from places they had traveled.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 70 years, Leo, of Chili; three children: Elroy Roehl of Chili, Darrel Roehl of Neillsville, and Cheryl (John) Fields of Loyal; four grandchildren: Angel Serenity, Jeremy (Cassandra) Menke-Fields, Jessica (Tony) Weber, and Travis (Heidi) Roehl; five great-grandchildren: Hayden and Gavin Weber, Kyler and Alygaeja Menke-Fields, and Jill Roehl; two brothers: Louis (Diane) Grobe of Marenisco, Mich., and Edward (Loretta) Grobe of Rapid City, Mich.; one sister: Carol (Ronald) Koepke of Marshfield; one sister-in-law: Janice Grobe of Congress, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Elmer “Butch” Grobe; and one sister: Florence Grobe.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Verna’s name to Christ Lutheran Church.
