Kozey, Mike George Jr. (11 MAR 1929 - 18 DEC 2016)

Mike George Kozey Jr., 87, of Oak Creek, died at his home on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.

He was born in Phillips on March 11, 1929, the son of Mike and Anna (Kertis) Kozey Sr. He was a 1947 graduate of Phillips High School.

He married Darlene Schmuland on Dec. 26, 1953, in Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips. He served his country in the United States Navy submarine service for 22 years, including service during the Korean War attaining the rank of chief engineman.

Following his military service, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until the time of his retirement. He was a life member of the DAV and of the Oak Creek American Legion, a 50 year member of the Fleet Reserve FRA, and of the Moose Lodge. In his free time he enjoyed attending the Moose Lodge Bingo games on Sundays, where he was affectionately known as "Bingo Mike."

Mike is survived by four children, Kenneth Michael (Kim), Waterford, Kevin (Tracy), Bremerton, Wash., Kathleen (Greg) Baehman, Wausau, and Keith (Tina), Medford. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and of great-grandchildren; and is further survived by one sister-in-law, Elsie Kozey; and by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, on August 22, 1963, and is further preceded in death by one brother, Paul; and by two sisters, Ann Schultz and Mary Lasuk.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Pastor Glenn Sokolowski officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips in the spring with military honors.

Friends were able to call the funeral home in Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
