Michlig, Joanna (Soczka) (18 JUL 1909 - 5 OCT 2009)

Joanna Michlig, 100, Edgar, died Monday, October 5, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Miller Country Care, Edgar.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born July 18, 1909 in the town of Rietbrock, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Urmanski) Soczka. On October 3, 1933 she married Ignatz "Nick" Michlig at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. He preceded her in death.

Joanna farmed with her husband in the town of Cassel for 70 years. She also taught elementary school and substituted in Marathon County schools for 50 years. Some of her hobbies included crocheting, tatting, sewing, playing cards and listening to the Chicago Cubs play ball.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Ignatz, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alois, Ernest and Vincent Soczka and one sister, Lillian Sonnentag.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Parish, Marathon.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Miller Country Care for their compassionate, loving care and also to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their eight months of exceptional care given to Joanna.
