Riemer, Caroline J. (Wendt) (30 DEC 1939 - 12 DEC 2011)

Caroline J. Riemer, 71, Athens passed away peacefully on December 12, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. The Rev. Andrew Alberts will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, town of Hamburg. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Caroline was born on December 30, 1939 to Helmuth and Florence (Gutknech) Wendt. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens, WI and graduated from Athens High School.

On June 25, 1960 Caroline married her high school sweet heart Robert J. Riemer. Together they farmed in Athens for 44 years and raised two sons, Allan S. (Kerry) Riemer and Michael D. Riemer. Last June Caroline and Robert celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Caroline is also survived by her loving grandchildren Christin and Jacob Riemer, sister Bonnie Benzinger, her sons Ron and Tom Benzinger, sister-in-law Joann (Robert) Pelatzke, their daughters Mary (Paul) Matushak, Debbie (Butch) Lashua, and Shelly (Tim) Klabunde, brother-in-law Gary Wagner, along with several nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

She has reunited with loved ones who have gone to the Lord including their baby girl Riemer, Caroline's parents Helmuth and Florence Wendt, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Ervin and Adeline Riemer, brothers-in-law David Benzinger and Ronald(Sandy) Riemer and sister-in-law LuAnn Wagner.

Caroline always enjoyed her flower gardens, snowmobiling, and playing cards. Since their retirement from farming she has taken pleasure in being a Red Hatter, her monthly birthday club dinners with her former classmates, and trips to Mississippi to visit their son Michael. Her greatest joy has been her close bond with her grandchildren and having them along with their friends at her home. Caroline always loved having people to their home and no one has ever been to the Riemer house with-out an offering of great food, snacks, and drinks. Her hospitality, smile, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her and she will be missed by all.
