Hendrickson, Melva J. (15 NOV 1928 – 6 NOV 2016)

Melva J. Hendrickson, 87, Greenwood, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Neillsville Care & Rehab in Neillsville. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 11, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Rev. Brian Campbell will officiate. Burial of cremains will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from noon until time of service.

Melva Jean White was born on Nov. 15, 1928, in the town of Loyal, rural Loyal, the daughter of James and Eva (nee Schwieso) White. She was raised on the family farm and attended Lyons School, in the town of Loyal, until the 8th grade. Melva completed her education in 1946, graduating from Loyal High School. She married Harold Hendrickson on April 19, 1947, at the Loyal United Methodist Church. After their marriage, Melva farmed with her husband in the town of Warner until 1971, at which time they moved into Greenwood and purchased the Greenwood Laundromat. After selling the laundromat in 1974, they did janitorial work for Farmers & Merchants Bank until 1983. Her husband, Harold, passed away on Aug. 8, 1990. Melva continued to live in Greenwood until moving to Sunset Gardens Assisted Living in November 2015. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a former member of the Clark County Homemakers. Melva’s home was always open to family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her family, quilting, embroidery, cross-stitching, and had very much enjoyed polka dancing on Sunday afternoons, and conversations over coffee every morning at the local restaurant.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters: Barbara (Bruce Paulson) Bowe of New Berlin, Charlotte (Dennis) Colby of Greenwood, and Tracy (Randy) Kitzhaber of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren and their children; one daughter-in-law: Mary Hendrickson of New Richmond; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; three sons: Dan in January 2004 and Ricky Lee and Craig Allan, both in infancy; two sisters: Eula Thompson and Elaine Bauer; and two brothers, Kenneth White and Donald White.
